Five 49ers join NFL teams

CHARLOTTE - Five Charlotte 49ers have either signed with NFL teams, or been invited to rookie minicamps.

Three of those players are from the Charlotte area.

  1. Austin Duke, Panthers, WR (UDFA) -- Independence H.S.
  2. Kalif Phillips, Packers, RB (UDFA) -- A.L. Brown
  3. Kedrick Davis, Lions, DB (tryout) -- Phillip O. Berry
  4. Brandon Banks, Redskins, DL (UDFA) -- SW Guilford
  5. Jamal Covington, KC, OL (tryout) -- Lovejoy HS (GA)

The signings come in the wake of defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi becoming the program's first-ever draft pick. Ogunjobi was selected in the third round by the Cleveland Browns on Friday.

Charlotte's program is only entering its 5th year of existence in 2017.

"That whole class helped lay our foundation and took a chance on us," said head coach Brad Lambert. "It's great to see them rewarded for their hard work.  We are extremely proud of them and what they have accomplished."
