CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Andre Neblett says he made a mistake when he took an over-the-counter dietary supplement that resulted in a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs.
The NFL suspended him four games without pay last week.
Neblett says "it's something I know I shouldn't have taken" and that "I should have checked with my trainer."
The 310-pound Neblett says he took the supplement to keep his weight down.
Neblett is entering his third season with the Panthers. He says he hopes the suspension doesn't affect his chances of making the team. He played in 12 games last year with four starts, finishing with 23 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Neblett says he's disappointed in himself, saying "I'm costing a team that can potentially make it to the playoffs."
