CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There was a very touching moment during Sunday's Panthers game at Bank of America Stadium.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson presented the family of a fallen officer with a special plaque and jersey in his memory.

Officer Fred Thornton died back in February when a flash bang detonated at his Mint Hill home.

He was a 28-year veteran of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, a member of CMPD’s SWAT team and also provided security at Panthers home games for about 15 years.
