CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason has written a blog on his Web site, addressing his recent legal troubles.

Beason is facing a civil lawsuit and criminal charges after he allegedly punched at man at a Charlotte nightclub.

In the blog posted Wednesday, Beason writes, "It's unfortunate when you put yourself in a situation where you might be vulnerable and someone takes advantage of it."

Beason is charged with assault after an alleged incident at Uptown Cabaret strip club on Nov. 16.

Gregory Frye claims that Beason sucker-punched him. He has filed a civil lawsuit seeking punitive damages in excess of $10,000.

Beason wrote that he looks at the incident as "a learning experience, and an opportunity for my true character to ultimately be revealed."

Beason also wrote that he's confident his name will be cleared.
