CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers rookies reported to camp at Bank of America Stadium Friday afternoon. Among them were the Panthers first round pick, rookie defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, who was taken 14th overall in last month's draft, second round pick Kawann Short, offensive guard Edmund Kugbila, linebacker A. J. Klein and running back Kenjon Barner.
When asked about his first day, Lotulelei said, "It was real exciting to get in here today, start running around. Practice was good, technique-wise with the pass rush, I need to work on my technique."
Short said, "They drafted us for a reason. Just come out here and build chemistry with the younger guys is important."
Head Coach Ron Rivera seemed pretty pleased with what he saw from his young guys Friday.
"Our draft picks came in and showed very well. I'm very pleased with the quickness I saw from the defensive tackles," he said. "I think the five we drafted showed up in good shape and ready to go so I was happy about that."
Camp continues through Sunday. The veterans will be at Bank of America Stadium next month for the start of organized team activities.
