CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Carolina Panthers have added depth at linebacker by signing Quinton Culberson, who played this season in the United Football League.
They made room on the roster Tuesday by waiving Kelvin Smith after reaching an injury settlement.
Culberson spent the 2007 and '08 seasons with St. Louis, recording 74 tackles. He played one game with the Rams this year before getting cut.
Culberson then signed with the Florida Tuskers of the UFL, which lost in the inaugural championship game last week.
The Panthers need help at linebacker after losing Thomas Davis and Landon Johnson to season-ending knee injuries.
Smith also had a knee injury.
