Frank Martin once bragged about his friendship with Pitbull to a player

A big part of coaching college basketball is being able to connect with a group of 18 to 22-year-old student athletes.

For South Carolina coach Frank Martin, his idea of being "accessible" to one of his players was to talk music.

Sound normal right? To have a middle-aged man ask kids about half of his age on what kind of music they have on their phones. But for junior forward Jarrell Holliman, who happens to be a music major, he had an epic story to share on how the Gamecocks coach tried to break ice with him on music.

For The Win's Andrew Joseph reports that Holliman recalled a story after Thursday's Final Four practice on how Martin was close friends with pop star Pitbull growing up.

“He was one of his friends growing up,” Holliman said, according to For The Win. “That’s what he told me because I’m a music guy, and he knew that. So he was talking to me when I first got here. And he was like, ‘Yeah, I know you’re a music guy. Pitbull was one of my best friends growing up.’ I was just like, ‘Wow, that’s incredible.’ Because Pitbull is in like every song.”

In the past, Martin has been open about his support for Mr. Worldwide. The coach tweeted back in 2012 on how he and Pitbull both shared the "American Dream."

Martin even tweeted how Pitbull was the "best performer" out there.
