WEDDINGTON, N.C. – Another professional golf tournament is coming to the Charlotte area.
Officials with the PGA Nationwide Tour announced Wednesday that the Chiquita Classic will take place September 24-30.
The tournament will be at the Club at Longview in Weddington, and the agreement is for three years.
“We promised to help make a positive impact in the Charlotte area, and bringing this fantastic golf tournament here will do just that,” said Chiquita CEO Fernando Aguirre in a statement.
The tournament will feature a field of 156 players for a total purse worth $550,000. The Club at Longview course was designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2003.
Many Nationwide Tour players, including Mathew Goggin, Webb Simpson, Cory Nagy and Brendon de Jonge, live in the Charlotte area.
The PGA tour already stops in Charlotte for the Wells Fargo championship held at Quail Hollow Country Club every May.
