CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The winner of the Wells Fargo Championship earns $1.1 million, but that is a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of million dollars that are at stake for the golf club manufacturers.
Technology changes constantly and big name manufacturers brought vans like Callaway’s traveling workshop to Quail Hollow. There, they are able to fine tune equipment for stars like Phil Mickelson.
Adjustable weights in the club heads are the latest rage and for the technicians, if players win with your equipment then your company thrives.
“We modify golf clubs and we repair golf clubs in here,” says Callaway PGA Tour representative Barry Lyda. “So we can even take it from the smallest thing, changing a grip on a golf club to building an entire set if necessary.”
