COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Mason Rudolph threw for a state championship game record eight touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Northwestern to a 62-35 victory over Stratford in the Class 4A, Division II state championship game Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium.
The two teams also set a state record for the most combined points in a state championship game with 97 points.
Rudolph had touchdown passes of 21, 29, 7, 9, 40, 24, 47 and 39 yards. The senior was 38-for-54 for 483 yards. He added his ninth touchdown when he recovered his own fumble in the end zone in the first quarter.
Receiver Dupree Hart had 21 catches for 255 yards and four touchdowns for the Trojans while Quadarius Fair added seven catches for 175 yards and four touchdowns.
It's the second state championship for the Trojans (15-0) in the last four years.
Stratford quarterback Jacob Park was 21-for-39 for 325 yards and four touchdowns but suffered four interceptions and two lost fumbles in the losing effort. The Knights (12-3) finished with eight total turnovers.
