CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A popular high school football website has ranked two Charlotte area football programs top 50 in the nation. And those two teams will play each other in the first week of the season.
In its countdown of the 100 best football programs in the country for 2011, Rivals.com ranks Mallard Creek High School 49th overall, while Butler comes in at 48th best.
Led by head coach Mike Palmieri, the Mavericks were upset by Vance in the 2010 playoffs.
“There is very little doubt that this team will push for nearly 700 points this season (after scoring 695 in 2010) with one of the most explosive offenses in the country,” the article stated.
Butler—the Class 4AA state champions the last two seasons—finished ninth in the country last year in Rivals’ Top 100 programs list.
“The book is still out on how Hales will manage expectations from the fan base as well as the administration,” the article noted.
The Bulldogs and Mallard Creek face off in week one on the Mavericks home turf..
West Rowan, which has won 46 consecutive games, comes in at 99th on the list by Rivals.com.
