Indian Trail, N.C. - Porter Ridge senior LexI Davis is this year's North Carolina Softball Gatorade Player of the Year.

Davis won the honor Wednesday afternoon, after the Pirates captured the North Carolina 4A Softball Title over the weekend. She finished with a remarkable 33-1 record and almost 280 strikeouts.

It's hard to believe the future Auburn Tiger almost never had the opportunity to throw that first strike. Davis suffered a leg injury sliding into second base during a middle school game. She broke her leg in three places and her ankle.

Doug Kufner takes a closer look at how Davis's dedication during her recovery period four years ago, helped her achieve her goals on the softball diamond this year.
