MORGANTON, N.C. -- Freedom got three touchdowns from sophomore running back BJ Emmons as the Patriots rolled past rival Patton tonight 48-14. With the win, Freedom finished unbeaten in Northwestern 3A/4A play to win the conference championship in Blair Hardin’s first year as head coach.
Chris Bridges got the scoring started for the Patriots with a touchdown run early in the first quarter, and Emmons also added his first touchdown of the game in that first half. Patton trailed 27-0 before finally getting on the board on a kickoff return by Sampson Cuthbertson. Freedom led 27-7 at the half.
Freedom added three more touchdowns in the second half, including two from Emmons. Patriots junior QB Titus Smith also threw two touchdown passes to Josh Ray in the game for Freedom.
With the victory, Freedom improved to 10-1 with the team’s eighth straight win. On the other side, it’s the third straight loss for Patton who finishes the regular season 7-4.
