RALEIGH, N.C . (AP) -- Jihad Wright hit the front end of a one-and-one with 3.4 seconds left, giving Gastonia Huss a 63-62 win over South Central Pitt in the Class 3-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association men's championship Saturday night.
It was the Huskies' third state title, added to 4-A championships in 1977 and 1985.
Freshman Kerrion Moore was named MVP after leading Huss (29-2) with 24 points. Wright added 10.
Donta Harper led South Central Pitt with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Anthony Hilliard added 23 points.
The Falcons were up 54-52 after three periods, following Hilliard's 3-pointer with 13 seconds left. Huss scored the next six to go up 58-54 on Dre McDowell's drive with 4:58 left.
The Falcons responded with an 8-0 run, but didn't score again. Moore hit a 3-pointer with 2:05 left and added the tying free throw at :20.7 before Wright canned the winner.
