CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For the second straight week a Charlotte area high school football game was decided by a missed PAT. Independence ruined Myers Park's homecoming with an incredible 56-55 overtime victory on the road.
The Mustangs, who had won three of four games entering the night, came back and scored with three seconds left to pull to within two points at 49-47. They converted on the two point try, sending the game into extras.
Charlotte Christian was able to knock off Country Day in similar fashion a week ago thanks to a made PAT in overtime, 42-41.
But Independence was able to both score and hit their point after try in the extra session and squeeked out the win to improve to 9-1 and 5-1 in the Southwestern 4A.
Myers Park falls to 6-4 and 3-3 in legue play. Indepence hosts Butler on the final regular season night, while the Mustangs take on Rocky River.
