BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- The Crest Chargers kept pace with South Point thanks to a 39-27 win over Kings Mountain Friday night in high school football action.
The Chargers (8-2)won the Cleveland County rivalry game and stays tied with the Red Raiders at 5-0 in the Big South conference. Kings Mountain, meanwhile, is now 5-5 and 3-2, all but out of the hunt for the Big South title.
Big Cleveland County rivalry gets some extra juice this year. Crest (7-2, 4-0 Big South) is tied with South Point (8-0, 4-0) for first place. Kings Mountain (5-4, 3-1) still has title hopes, too, and needs to win Friday to keep them.
KM held close in the in the first half, but the Chargers took a 14-3 lead and strolled from there.
South Point will travel to Crest next Friday night for a winner-take-all contest.
