Blocked field goal lifts Charlotte Christian over Davidson Day

Charlotte Christian marched one step closer to another state championship with a victory over defending champs Davidson Day.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Friday’s highly anticipated matchup between Davidson Day and Charlotte Christian didn’t disappoint.

Chad Grier’s team, the defending Division I champions in the NCISAA, made the trip to Charlotte to take on Jason Estep’s Knights, with the winner advancing to the state championship game.

Davidson Day quarterback and Wake Forest commit Sam Hartman took advantage of a banged-up Christian secondary, passing for over 400 yards and three touchdowns.

With less than two minutes to play, Hartman and the Patriots got the ball back down 28-27. After completing three passes, the Patriots had an opportunity to win the game on a last-second field goal. That’s when Charlotte Christian’s Bryden Reed stepped in, blocking the kick and giving the Knights a one-point win.
