CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Butler Bulldogs and Richmond Raiders delivered another classic Friday night, with the Bulldogs escaping with a 42-41 victory.
After each team matched touchdowns in the first quarter, Richmond began to pull away in the second. The Raiders’ offense was stout in the first half as they pulled away to a 35-19 lead at halftime.
In the second half it was a different story. Butler quarterback Davis Cheek proved to be nearly flawless, finishing the game 22 of 36 for 252 yards and four touchdowns.
In the end, it came down to Butler’s defense getting one last stand. A botched field goal attempt in the final minute sealed the deal for the home team, giving Richmond their 100th loss in school history.
