CORNELIUS, N.C. – Brian Hales and the Butler Bulldogs stuck to their winning ways on the road Friday, defeating Hough 21-10.
The Bulldogs struck first when Dirk Cureton intercepted Hough quarterback Jackson Gibbs and rumbled 31 yards for a 7-0 lead. The Huskies answered with a 24-yard field goal, drawing within four points.
Junior running back Nijere Peoples extended the Butler lead on a 66-yard touchdown rush, putting Butler up 14-3 at halftime.
In the second half, Hough scored halfway through the third quarter on a 19-yard touchdown catch by Damon Early, but that was as close as they’d get. Peoples found the endzone again on a 2-yard plunge to put Butler up by 11.
The Bulldogs begin conference play next week by taking on Garinger, who is on a 46-game losing streak. Hough also begins conference play with a trip to Hopewell.
