CORNELIUS, N.C. - Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton calls his first 7-on-7 high school football tournament Friday afternoon at Hough High School a success.
Sixteen area teams are competing in the two day event. Newton is now entering his third season with the Panthers. He really wants to get more involved in the community. Cam said, " Giving back to the community through my foundation is one of the main things we focus on with this event. For me, I didn't have an opportunity for myself like this when I was in high school. This is my event I'm out here from start to finish."
The tournament wraps up Saturday afternoon. The winning team receives $2500 dollars for football equipment. Newton and the Panthers report to training camp in Spartanburg, South Carolina on July 25th.
