Legendary West Rowan football coach dies of heart complications

The high school football community in North Carolina is mourning the loss of a legendary football coach.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The high school football community in North Carolina is mourning the loss of a legendary football coach.

According to the West Rowan High School's football team's Twitter account, Scott Young died from complications related to a heart transplant.

Young was West Rowan's head football coach from 2000 to 2015. He led the Falcons to three consecutive Class 3A state championships from 2008 to 2010.

Derek Miller remembered Young as not only a great coach but a better man.

"He loved his kids," Miller said. "Huge part of what he did -- he had three kids."

"He was an overall good guy with a great character," Miller added.

Current West Rowan coach Joe Nixon sent a tweet following the news of Young's death:
