CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a game filled with big plays and big time recruits, Charlotte Catholic stayed perfect and spoiled Berry Academy’s homecoming in week nine of the “Friday Night Frenzy” prep football season with a 48-26 win.
The Cardinals shot themselves in the foot throughout most of the first half, committing several penalties and throwing an interception in the red zone. Catholic led 13-7 at half after an Elijah Hood one-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left in the second quarter. The Cougars missed a two point conversion.
In the second half, David Herlocker pounded it in for his second score of the evening to make it 26-7 Cougars. Berry star and one of the state's top recruits Nick Dawson cut the deficit to 26-14 with a score, but Hood was back at it for his third touchdown, making it 34-14 in the early goings of the fourth quarter.
Cardinals quarterback Kyle Hoffman responded and found Kedrick Davis, a UNC commit, for a 57-yard strike to cut the Cougars lead to 41-20, but it wasn't enough as Catholic held on for a 22-point win
Catholic improves to 8-0 and 4-0 in the MEGA 7 Conference, while Berry falls to 6-2 and 3-1 in league play. The Cardinals play at Olympic next week.
