CONCORD, N.C. – Talk about a turnaround.
After finishing their final season winless in the 4A MeCKa league, Joe Glass and the Jay M. Robinson Bulldogs wrapped up the 2016 campaign by topping Concord 28-21 in overtime to claim the South Piedmont 3A championship.
Early on, the visiting Spiders looked like they were on their way to a fourth consecutive conference title, racing out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter behind two Jacob Irby touchdown passes. Robinson running back Dawson Williams answered the call, though, scoring from 20 yards out to bring the Bulldogs within four points at 14-10 at the half. He finished the game with 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Robinson’s Daniel Rivera sent the game to overtime with a season-long 46-yard field goal.
In the extra session, Robinson’s Josh Dale connected with Baarkiar Anderson on a 13-yard touchdown, clinching the school’s first win over Concord since 2009.
