South Pointe defense snaps Mallard Creek's 11-game winning streak

South Pointe defeated Mallard Creek 17-6 in a mild upset over the No. 1 team in North Carolina.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Pointe Stallions brought their “A” game against three-time defending NCHSAA 4AA champions Mallard Creek Friday, scoring a 17-6 win.

The win snapped an 11-game winning streak for the visiting Mavericks, who already defeated one South Carolina power in Byrnes earlier this season.

The home-standing Stallions jumped on the Mavs early with a 3-yard touchdown run from Derion Kendrick. A 44-yard field goal from B.T. Potter extended South Pointe’s lead to 10-0 at the half.

Mallard Creek finally got on the board with a Nazjae Bryant touchdown, drawing within four points. Unfortunately for the Mavs, South Pointe answered immediately on a 56-yard touchdown pass.

South Pointe will begin region play in two weeks against Ridge View. Mallard Creek will return home to take on winless West Charlotte in Mecka play.
