CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte Checkers head coach Jeff Daniels' dual role as coach and general manager saves him time when the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes call from Raleigh, needing an extra skater immediately.
Daniels' Stanley Cup history, winning both as a player and an assistant coach, comes in handy as he teaches the next generation of stars with a lineup that changes all the time.
"You're kind of at the mercy of what happens in the big club up top," Daniels said. "If they run into injury problems or are looking to change some things, obviously they're going to call some guys up. So we just go day to day down here. Sometimes it's hour to hour. If the phone rings, you know there's going to be some movement."
