CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Embattled former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield is facing a lawsuit - this time from his former attorney, Bill Diehl.
Mayfield was suspended from NASCAR after he tested positive for methamphetamine. He hired Diehl to represent him.
But In the lawsuit filed Wednesday, Diehl alleges that Mayfield owes him more than $370,000. The Charlotte attorney says that Mayfield continually said payments were "on the way," or "being delivered today."
The suit further alleges that when Mayfield did pay Diehl, the payments were less than "promised."
We talked to Diehl by phone. He told us, "I threatened to sue. He didn't pay me. I sued."
We also called Mayfield, but were unable to reach him. However, at an auction last week, Mayfield told NewsChannel 36, "I don't know where he's come up with this 'I haven't paid him a dime.' I've paid Bill Diehl a lot of money. He knows I've paid him a lot of money."
