CONCORD, N.C. -- NASCAR wives and girlfriends returned to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the third and final practice session Wednesday night before a charity race on October 15.
More than a dozen women will compete in the Better Half Dash race to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and Motor Racing Outreach. The inaugural event is a 25-lap race on the front stretch quarter-mile oval before the Bank of American 500, and drivers will race around in bandolero cars.
During the first practice session on September 26, the wife of NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth crashed into the wall and broke her shoulder. She has withdrawn from the race.
The winner will donate $5,000 to the winner's charity, while second and third place will donate $3,000 and $2,000 to charity, respectively.
