Newton sets new Panthers records Sunday vs Kansas City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cam Newton rushed and passed his way to a pair of Carolina Panthers franchise records Sunday.

The defending NFL MVP connected with Greg Olsen in the first quarter of the Panthers’ home game against Kansas City, completing his 1,581th career pass, surpassing Jake Delhomme for the team’s all-time mark. Newton’s 126 career passing touchdowns is a franchise best.

Newton entered Sunday’s contest tied with DeAngelo Williams for the most rushing touchdowns in Panthers history with 46 in his career. In the second quarter, Newton bulled his way into the endzone from four yards out to become the team's all-time leader.

Newton is one of three players in NFL history, along with Peyton Manning and Andy Dalton, to have at least 3,000 passing yards in each of their first five seasons.
