Josh Norman criticized NFL officials. So did Cam Newton.
But only one was fined.
The league docked Norman $25,000 for his postgame comments after last Sunday’s 27-27 tie against the Cincinnati Bengals in which Norman called out side judge Brad Freeman, saying: “He sucked.”

Newton, on the other hand, said he didn’t “feel safe” after he suffered a hit to his knees against the Arizona Cardinals last week and indicated he would speak to Commissioner Roger Goodell about it.
The league didn’t penalize Newton, who said earlier this week he was “encouraged” after his conversation with Goodell. Two Cardinals players, Calais Campbell and Rodney Gunter, were fined after the game for late hits on the reigning MVP.
The Redskins are on their bye, which allowed Norman to appear in studio on FOXSports’ pre-game show to comment on the fine.
“What I’m trying to figure out is how, though?” he said Sunday. “Because it seems to me that all the fines seem to be excessive. Over the amount of what’s really going on. I mean, I understand that, yeah, I singled out an official. … I didn’t question where I said he blew a game in that kind of manner. I just said he sucked.”
Norman added that he will “of course” appeal the fine.
This marks the third time Norman has been fined this season, after getting docked $48,620 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against the New York Giants in Week 3, and losing $9,115 in Week 4 four an unsportsmanlike penalty against the Cleveland Browns.
