OMAHA, Neb. -- SwimMAC has placed their second athlete on the 2012 USA Olympic team as Cullen Jones (Irvington, N.J., N.C. State '06) placed second in the men’s 100 freestyle event Friday night at the 2012 Olympic trials.

In an exciting race, where Jones was third at the 50, he hammered down and edged out third place Matt Grevers 48.46 to 48.55, to make the team as an individual swimmer. Nathan Adrian took top billing with a 48.10. The top four are put on the team for the 4x100 relay.

Jones won gold in the 2008 Olympics as a member of the 4x100 relay team.

In other action, Elliott Keefer (Cincinnati, Ohio, Ohio State '11) swam in the finals of the men’s 200 breast and posted his third personal best of the event. He finished fifth with a 2:11.10, .17 better than his semifinal swim last night.

The three swimmers in semifinal action all swam into the finals of their respective events.

Madison Kennedy (Avon, Conn., Cal Berkeley '10) is seeded sixth in the 100 free with a 54.45.

Nick Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio, Arizona '08), who was officially named to the Olympic team this evening in the 100 back, enters the 200 back finals seeded sixth.

Micah Lawrence (Pflugerville, Texas, Auburn) looked dialed in both in prelims and semifinals of the 200 breast. She took the top spot in both her prelim heat and semi heat and is seeded second for the finals.

It was another incredible night for the Charlotte club and there is still a lot more action left in the meet.
