Rivera hopeful Panthers can make playoffs

CHARLOTTE - Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera told his players as they left for the Bye Week to get away from football for a while. It looks like Rivera heeded his own advice.

Rivera's twitter account was active. Here's a look at how Rivera spent his Charlotte staycation.

Although it was a bit too loud for Rivera's taste.

"I'm a little bit of a fuddy duddy," he told the media on Monday. "Halfway through it I was anxious to get home and catch the second half (of the Arizona/Seattle game). So we left a bit early. But (Rivera's wife) Stephanie understands thank goodness."

No doubt Rivera wasn't completely away from the game. He's still preaching hope for his 1-5 club. The 2015 Kansas City Chiefs are the only team in NFL history to start 1-5 and make the playoffs.

Rivera says he's got the guys to do it.

"Because of the leadership," he said. "We've got some really good guys in the locker room. It's a good group of men that work hard."

Helping out Sunday, two of Carolina's three division opponents, Atlanta and New Orleans, lost their games.

"You've just got to keep believing that you've got an opportunity," said Rivera. "You never know. It could all come back to us."
