OLYMPIA, GREECE - NOVEMBER 27: Greek athlete Costas Fillipidis, the first torchbearer, recives the flame from actress Theodora Siarkou who plays the role of high priestess during the Ceremony of the Lighting of the Olympic Flame for the Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games at the Ancient Olympia site on November 27, 2005 in Olympia, Greece. The torch was lit using the rays of the sun in the ancient sanctuary where the Olympic Games were started in 776 B.C, near the temple of Hera. The end of the flame's Greek itinerary will include an event on December 6 in Athens after which it then goes to Italy for a 64-day, 11,300-kilometer (7,020-mile) relay involving 10,000 torchbearers.
