CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It has been one month since Albemarle native Kellie Pickler shaved her head in support of her childhood friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Pickler is spreading the message that early detection is key. She continues to perform at venues across the country.

Last week Pickler performed at the 6th Annual ACM Honors at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Pickler s childhood friend Summer Holt Miller was diagnosed with breast cancer in June. Both women shaved their blonde heads September 4.

A video of Pickler and Miller shaving their heads can be viewed on www.athenawater.com. The company made a monetary donation to the American Cancer Society in Miller's honor.

October is breast cancer awareness month.
