OTTER CREEK, Fla. (AP) -- Residents of a small, northwest Florida County are disappointed that Duke Energy won't be building a $24.7 billion nuclear power plant anytime soon.

Earlier this month, the North Carolina-based company announced it was scuttling plans to build the plant in Levy County, citing changes in the energy market and regulatory hurdles.

Residents had hoped the plant would bring much needed tax revenue and jobs to the rural county of 40,000.

Folks also are concerned about the loss of jobs from the February closing of the nearby Crystal River plant in Citrus County. Many Levy residents worked at the plant, which was closed after several cracks were discovered in a concrete containment building during an attempt to upgrade the plant in 2009.
