CHARLOTTE, N.C. Police continue to search for the man they say hid in a woman s car while she was grocery shopping, then emerged from her backseat, pulled a gun and ordered her to drive to an ATM on Sunday evening.

After the 25-year-old victim drove to the ATM, the man robbed her and drove off in her Jeep.

People in the Plaza-Midwood neighborhood, where the robbery happened, say they are shocked by the crime.

Linda Ostrow has been running a frame shop in the area for over 30 years. She says she s seen positive changes in the neighborhood over the years.

I ve seen it really improve, she says. Young people moving in with a lot of energy and a lot of really good ideas.

Her store backs up to the Central Avenue Harris Teeter parking lot where the crime occurred. The parents of the victim say the suspect was caught on surveillance video, going from car to car in the lot; searching for one that was left unlocked.

Bob Williams lives near the victim and says word of the crime spread quickly through the close-knit neighborhood.

Within an hour an email had been sent to around 30 or 40 people saying, hey, watch out for this guy, to be careful, be aware of your surroundings, he says.

Police are looking for both the suspect and the victim s Jeep. Her car is a 1989 Jeep Cherokee with North Carolina license plate YRY-7138.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
