CONCORD, N.C. -- North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue is in Concord talking about the completion of the outer loop around North Carolina's largest city.

Perdue is joining state and local officials Monday afternoon to discuss progress on the last five miles of Interstate 485, as well as an interchange connecting the loop to Interstate 85 and a widening project for I-85 into Cabarrus County.

Loop construction began in 1988 and was supposed to be finished in 2003.

Perdue promised city leaders as she took office in 2009 that she would find a way to jump start construction on the final leg of I-485.
