LAUREL, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police have arrested a Kannapolis man wanted in a slaying last month.
Maryland authorities were notified by Kannapolis officials that 19-year-old Darius Smotherson of Kannapolis may be taking a bus headed to the Baltimore area. Smotherson was wanted in the May 21 murder of 17-year-old Daniel Cooper.
Cooper was shot in the neck while inside a car on Snow Street in Kannapolis, police said. The high school senior died later at an area hospital.
About 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, authorities saw Smotherson getting off a bus at the Interstate 95 welcome center in Laurel. He was arrested without incident.
Reginald Javae Clark and 17-year-old Damarick Harper of China Grove have already been arrested in connection with the killing. Harper was charged with murder while Clark was charged with murder, armed robbery and conspiracy.
