CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte police are warning residents after a recent increase in car thefts around southwest Charlotte.

The car break-ins have been during the overnight hours, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The incidents have occurred in neighborhoods along the South Tryon Street corridor, on Steele Creek Road and Moss Road, police said.

Thieves have been targeting unlocked vehicles taking cash, purses, wallets, GPS units and anything else of value, CMPD said in a statement.

If you see any suspicious activity you are asked to call police immediately.
