ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (AP) -- The president of the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP will talk about plans for the seventh annual event called Historic Thousands on Jones Street at a service honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

North Carolina NAACP President William Barber will speak Sunday evening about HKonJ on Feb. 9 in Raleigh, where people will march in support of civil rights.

Among the issues for NAACP are economic sustainability and an end to poverty; educational equality; health care for all; fairness in the criminal justice system and voting rights.

The candlelight service in remembrance of King will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Rocky Mount.
