CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte police are investigating a fatal accident Sunday morning in uptown.

The accident was discovered shortly before 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of West 11th and Poplar Streets.

One vehicle was involved in the crash, according to police. Investigators said the driver 26-year-old

Tyjuan Collins was thrown from his SUV as it tumbled down an embankment.

The vehicle ended up on 11th Street in front of a vacant office. The vehicle was found until police were called to check out a downed power pole Sunday morning.

Officials determined Collins SUV hit the pole as it careened off the road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police believe speed was a leading factor in the accident
