SPENCER, N.C. -- A Spencer man is accused of trafficking opiates following the discovery of illegally-possessed prescription pills in a traffic stop on Wednesday.

The Rowan County Sheriff Office's Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team and members of the Special Investigative Unit pulled over a vehicle driven by James Brian Jarvis in a Chick Fil A parking lot on Wednesday morning.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered Jarvis was in possession of more than 100 Oxycodone pills, and throughout the course of the interview, authorities say they determined Jarvis' intent was to sell the drug to other individuals.

Jarvis was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking opium or heroin, one count each of conspire to traffic opium or heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jarvis was booked in to the Rowan County Detention Center under bonds totaling $252,500.
