LAKEWYLIE, S.C. -- The York County Sheriff's Office is investigating nearly two dozen car burglaries at a quiet condominium community in Lake Wylie.

Authorities say 21 cars were reported as burglarized in the early morning hours on Monday at the Lake Wylie Woods community and the Hamilton's Bay apartments off of Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie.

Of the 21 reported break-ins, 14 were in the Wylie Woods community, officials say. The majority of the break-ins had a side window of the vehicle broken out, however, three of the vehicles were unlocked.

Among the items taken were money and valuables left out in the open or in the glove box or center console.

The president of the Lake Wylie Woods Association tells NBCCharlotte one of the victims had a $36,000 check stolen.
