MORGANTON, N.C. Less than 24 hours after a deadly police chase in Belmont, Morganton police were involved in a high-speed pursuit that injured one officer and involved three different wrecks.

The driver of a blue Chevrolet Cavalier approached a license checkpoint at 6:45 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Avery Avenue and Lenoir Road. The driver sped off and was chased by at least two patrol cars, according to a Morganton police report.

The chase continued when police say Joshua Allen Adams, 30, ran a red light and hit a Honda Accord at the intersection of College and West Meeting streets. Despite the crash, Adams continued toward Interstate 40 and hit an officer s car near the I-40 west on-ramp, police say.

The officer s car hit a guardrail, went down a ravine and hit a concrete slab, causing minor head injuries to Sergeant Tico Moss. Sgt. Moss was later released from Grace Hospital.

The three people inside the Honda Accord were not injured.

Adams then struck a Chevrolet Impala, causing both cars to become inoperable and leading to his arrest.

The driver of the Impala and two passengers were taken to Grace Hospital where two patients were later released.

Adams was taken to the hospital and was later handed 12 different charges, including DWI, hit and run, careless and reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

He is due in court on May 29 to face the DWI charge.
