CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Nowadays we've seen more than enough of these kinds of images caught on camera-- kids bullying other kids sometimes even adults.
Now, there's a new way to tackle an issue we've seen far too often, and a local mom is behind it.
Michelle Buelow runs the company Bella Tunno for pretty much all things baby-- and mommy, too.
As a mom of two, her latest venture deals with the subject of bullying. It's called Bully in a Box.
It's time to identify it, and it's kind of time, if you will, to capture it, Buelow expressed, You know, to really put it in a place that we can deal with it and we can stop it from escaping.
That's where the name comes from.
Here's how it works: Bully in a Box is a series of iBooks for kids ages 6 to 9.
Right now, we have three stories that we just launched, Buelow says, ...The stories are all real life stories.
And Buelow wrote them along with her mom.
They focus on three characters.
The one story Caterina Faterina is actually her story when she was in elementary school.
There's a story Stinky Stevie. I wasn't Stinky Stevie, but I was the girl Sarah in that book.
And there's the story Peter Pummeler, and that actually was a story about a boy that we knew.
The reason Buelow came up with Bully in a Box? Buelow says, I have an 8-year-old, and her first day of kindergarten she came home and she was telling me some things that a little girl said to her.
I mean, it hurts when your child hurts, and I completely fumbled, she expressed.
I didn't do anything helpful. I didn't do anything wrong, but I was so upset that I think I made the situation worse, Buelow says.
These books, she says, gets parents and kids thinking about what they would do before the situation presents itself.
Because in the heat of the moment when emotions are running high, and you and your child are hurt, it's really not the best time to think about an approach.
The neat thing about it is the story doesn't just end, Buelow explained, The story stops at a point of climax where everybody is in a confusing situation and it asks questions... What would you do? You get to finish the story.
They have a choice, and they have a choice to make the situation worse and to join in to a bad situation or to make it better.
Something else pretty cool about these iBooks is five percent of all sales go to the anti-bullying campaign WhatDoYouChoose.org.
And, more iBooks will be released in next few months.
