TEGA CAY, S.C. -- Heavy rain this week brought more sewer spill problems to Tega Cay.

The water forced manholes to overflow on Palmyra Drive and Manawa Lane. The wastewater treatment plant off Marquesas Drive also dumped partially raw sewage into Lake Wylie.

Tega Cay Water Services says the areas have been cleaned, but residents should stay away from the lake until DHEC completes testing.

Neighbors have been fighting Utilities Inc. for years over sewage spill problems. Last month, the EPA issued a notice of violation, which requires the company to come up with fixes ordered by South Carolina health officials earlier this year.

Tega Cay isn't alone. The excessive rainfall caused an overflow in Kannapolis at Highway 3 and Mason Street on Friday.
