GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- One person is in the hospital with serious injuries after losing control of a vehicle and slamming into a bridge.

Emergency first responders with Crowder's Mountain Fire & Rescue responded to the single-vehicle crash on Robinson Road near York Highway around 5:15 Sunday morning.

Authorities say the driver lost control of the vehicle on Robinson Road, struck the side of a bridge and came to a rest in the woods nearby, leaving the motorist pinned inside the vehicle.

The driver was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with injuries believed to be life threatening. The driver was the only occupant.

The driver has not been identified.
