KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- There's new development on the horizon in Kannapolis.

On Wednesday, the Kannapolis City Council unanimously voted to approve funding for a new city hall and police headquarters on the south side of downtown.

According to current plans, city hall and the police facility will be located on the site of the former Kannapolis Post Office, a one-block parcel of land that borders Dale Earnhardt Drive, Vance Street and Oak Avenue.

The city says they will likely initiate the sale of limited obligation bonds in late 2013 or early 2014 to finance the project.
