STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Investigators in Iredell County are looking for a man they say assaulted a woman and a 3-year-old child.

The investigation began after authorities received a call about an assault that took place on February 25 on Island Sycamore Drive in Statesville.

The victim reported she had been assaulted and burned with a cigarette, and that her assailant knocked a 3-year-old child from her arms.

Investigators say they observed and document injuries to the victim.

Upon further investigation, 29-year-old Rico Lamonte Torrence, of Mooresville, was identified as the suspect. Officials say Torrence has two prior convictions for assault on a female.

A warrant has been obtained for Torrence on habitual misdemeanor assault.

Torrence is also wanted on three outstanding warrants.
