STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Statesville Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob a store on Tuesday afternoon, prompting the lockdown of a nearby school.

Just after 1 p.m., police say a black male standing 5-foot-9, wearing a brown shirt, jeans, a toboggan and a gray scarf entered Priscilla's on Sullivan Road.

The suspect, who was armed with a knife, pulled the scarf over his face as soon he entered the store, police say, approached the counter and demanded money.

The store employee backed away from the counter and activated the panic alarm.

After several demands that got him nowhere, the suspect fled the store on foot, southbound toward Carolina Avenue.

Authorities say nothing was taken in the robbery attempt, and no one was injured.

Nearby Northview IBSchool was placed on a precautionary lockdown during the search for the suspect. The suspect was not located.

If you have any information concerning this robbery attempt, you're asked to call Iredell Crime Stoppers at (704) 662-1340.
