COLULUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- State Sen. Vincent Sheheen is again calling on Gov. Nikki Haley to fire her director at South Carolina's Department of Social Services, following last week's death of a 5-month-old baby the agency was notified about last month but couldn't find.

Sheheen said Haley should immediately fire DSS Director Lillian Koller, repeating a statement he made six weeks ago.

Haley's campaign spokesman says it's shameful her Democratic opponent is politicizing an innocent child's death.

Sheheen's news conference follows media reports DSS was notified March 3 that a baby with a heart issue wasn't receiving proper medical care. Agency officials say they could not find the family until Friday, three days after the child died.

Agency spokeswoman Marilyn Matheus says the family was transient and could not be located despite repeated attempts.
